New Parish in new Diocese

Another historical mile stone for the Congregation of Holy Cross, northeast Province, with the Inauguration and blessings of the newly erected Holy Cross Parish, Mawpat, bifurcated from Rangblang Parish, under Nongstoin diocese, in south-west Khasi Hills, Meghalaya on May 21, 2017.
On the same day, Fr Roy Thalackan, CSC was installed as the first Parish Priest by Most Rev Dominic Jala, SDB, DD, the Apostolic Administrator of Nongstoin Diocese and Archbishop of Shillong.
There were about 35 priests, a large number of religious men and women and more than 5000 faithful gathered from different parishes to witnessed this historic moment. A good, number of faithful came from the existing Holy Cross Parishes, like Good Shepherd, Jongksha and Holy Cross Parish, Mawkynrew.
In his homily, the Archbishop explained to the people the need for creating another parish, is for a better and more effective pastoral care and administration. He exhorted the faithful to work and cooperate with the newly installed parish priest hand in hand for the development of the parish especially in taking care of the environment with a specific attention to be given in the plantation of more trees and improvement of road communication.
The Congregation of Holy Cross, northeast province expressed sincere thanks and gratitude to all have worked tirelessly for the successful celebration of this event. May God continue to bless this new Parish and the people.
